Minecraft Item: Diamond
A diamond is one of the most rare materials found in minecraft. It is usually found 16 blocks from the bedrock on a map, right down the bottom.
The easiest method for finding diamonds
One of the best ways to find diamonds is to dig a trench / stairs down to the bedrock (as far as you can mine down) and then dig a 2 high trench along the bedrock surface, this will allow you to see 5-6 surfaces where diamonds appear for each 2 blocks mined.
Once you have done a long tunnel in this way then create another tunnel next to it another 2 blocks across and go straight.
What i usually do is mine down to bedrock and mine out a largish room with a minecart track to the surface and some storage containers for all the excess rock. then from this i mine out say half a map, or until i hit lava, and rince and repeat. This usually turns up quick a few diamonds if you are lucky ;)
