Minecraft Potions Guide and FAQ

0

To start making potions you will need a brewing stand and some glass vials.

Creating your first potion

Most potions are based on the awkward potion, which is created by adding Nether Wart above some water bottles in the brewing grid, on the brewing stand.

Awkward Potion

Nether Wart + Water Bottle

Potion Modifiers

Redstone: will increase the potions duration

Glowstone: will increase its potency

Fermented Spiders Eye: will corrupt the potion.

Gunpowder: will create a splash potion.

What is a Splash Potion?

A Splash potion is a modification of a normal potion that enables it to be thrown as a weapon. Pretty much any brewable potion can be turned into a splash potion by mixing the normal potion with gunpowder.

Once created the potion gets a different vial type, looking more angled. The potions can be thrown and also added to dispensers, that can launch the potions automatically or from a trigger.

Another handy use of splash potions is that they can be thrown on the ground to be quickly consumed rather than having to drink them manually.

Primary Potion List

All primary potions are created with one ingredient and a water bottle.
